Sonic Sense Pro Audio Mic Test Videos
The guys at Sonic Sense, an online pro audio retailer located here in Denver, brought me in to their offices to sing the same thing on about 20 different microphones for some gear comparison videos they’re adding to their new online Resource Center. I sang a section of “Back to the Shadows” about 60 or 70 times, as much exactly the same as I could every single time. Which wasn’t hard because if there’s one thing I can do as a singer, it’s that. I selected a passage that goes from quiet to very loud, to test a wide dynamic range of each microphone.
Unfortunately, I discovered that my favorite mic was the Neumann U47 (not the ubiquitous U87, surprisingly), which costs about $15,000. And my next favorite was the Bluebird, which I believe is several thousand dollars at least. I guess I have expensive taste.
For the gearheads, here are the first two videos released in that series.
